Monochromatic and Analogous Photos

I chose to use analogous and monochromatic for the two photos. I used items that I had around my room. I really enjoyed taking these photos and putting together situations that fit any of the color categories. It took me a few times before I found a combination that I actually liked. This assignment really made me think out of the box and I enjoyed having to use my creative mind.

The first photo is actually taken on a shelf I have painted in my room and I used the natural light and lighting from around my room to create the shadow effect. For the second photo I took the items from several different angles and had a hard time choosing one, but after looking at them many time I decided I loved the angle of this best. I especially like how it captures the ruffles and top shape of the glass vase.

  1. Wow, both of these photos are great. The first photo is simple and well lit. The bright color of the bottle and its location really draw you in. The angle, lighting, and detail of the second photo make it a complete scene. As I said last week, both of these look like professional ads.

  2. I smiled when I saw both these shots. The use of color is a strong element, but you also composed and lit the shots perfectly. Your choice of subject and point of view are excellent they make these shots unique and engaging. Great job!

  3. The lighting and shadows on these pictures is really good. I love the nail polish one and how the top is unscrewed and looks as though it may fall off at any time... it makes the shadow appear larger...not sure if this was your intention? Nice work!

  4. Melinda - Thank you!! It was intentional to off set the cap, I wanted to create a little variation in the piece and like the detail on the top of a nail polish bottle. But I actually didn't intentionally to make the shadow appear larger that way - it is a great idea to create the larger shadow that way!

  5. Okay, so can I just say that I love that nail polish color. It looks outstanding against the purple background you set up! And I love the angle you took of the vase and how you caught the ruffles. It all just looks so nice! Good work :D

  6. these are great shots! Not something that I would've thought to take pictures of. One thing I enjoy is seeing what everyone else comes up with for photos! Nice Work!

  7. Very cool shots. The amount of color in both of these images is rich. I really like the first image with the red against the purple background and the dynamic point of view you shot with to capture that shadow. Its cool that the lighting in this piece makes for three different tones of purple. And I like the white cap tipped off. It makes the whole image just a bit more alive. I tried to image the shot with the cap on, and it didn't have the same effect.
