Portrait Photos

The first two images I took over the weekend. My brothers were not too thrilled when I asked to take pictures of them. I would like to take the time to take portrait images another week so I can use some of the techniques read about and actually have people how dont mind me taking the time to take their picture. I caught the first image as my brother was walking away and it came out better than I expected, I got a lot of blurry images this weekend unfortunately. I cropped the first photo so my brother was in the rule of thirds. I also played around with lighting and saturation. For the second image, I had someone else take it but I placed us and set the background up. I wanted to capture part of the mountains and me being the smallest needed to be in the center.

The second two images I have taken previously this fall. I really like how they came and think they are good images for Portrait photos. I love the angle on the first image and the lighting was perfect. I had to move quick to get this photo, her expression is priceless though! The second image I got on the swings, I wanted to capture something "in motion" more or less. I was able to capture both of them smiling and I liked how the girl on the left is only looking halfway and it is more of a "candid" approach.

paint tool

I gave the paint tool two attempts as well. I found this tool hard to use, it was difficult to make the paint "blend" with the image and save it from looked actually edited. The top image I added colors into the sand with one of the printed options (on GIMP). The bottom photo I used fuzzy select and the paint bucket to fill in the red on the mask, and then used the paint tool with the same color red to go over it all. I like how the sand and shadow paint edit came out better than the bottom one.

clone tool

I gave this two attempts with the clone tool. For the first images with the beach access sign, I took out all the wires and pole. This took me a few times to get it right. I still think it could be a little cleaner. I had to play around a lot with the opacity and re-clicking the clone tool to get the sky proportioned properly and not leave marks. For the second image, I edited the show. I tried to get the scuff marks out of the bottom of the shoe. But, again I think that photo could be cleaned up more with practice.

text edit

When we first started editing photos this was actually one of the first things I wanted to do, I love this photo and the saying. I feel that they go together really well. The layout of the photos fits where I placed the text and the wave underneath I feel adds a cliche effect to the image.

Filter Photos

I added sparkle and one of the Lighting effects filters here. I adjusted the lighting filters effect in the upper left corner of the image I felt it made it look like the sun radiating and shining on the sand. I kelt the radiating color similar to the blue from the water as well to keep balance in the photo.  I then added in the sparkle, I felt it blended nicely with the sea glass and sand. It have the image a "magical" look! I had to play around with many filters for each of these photos before I got ones that I really liked and worked well with the photos. Overall, I am pleased with how the photos came out, my favorite it the second one with the picture of me and one of the kids I nanny for.

For this image I cropped the photos and then added the cartoon filter to it. I played around with the adjustments here to balance the black an cartoon effect. I liked how the filter added black and casted shadows throughout the image. I then added another lighting effects filter. I had to move around and play with the options to get the light shining in the center, radiating the shape it is and adjusted the colors. I felt it looked like the sun shining in the background adding a nice glow to the image overall .

I added a third photo os an image I added a filter too. I really liked the image it self and wanted to play around with it. It took me a while to find a filter I liked on this one. I ended up using the canvas filter. I liked the artistic edge it gave the image. It really made it look like it was actually on a canvas and slightly painted.

Light & Color

I went to the beach again this week to take pictures. I tried capturing images different than previous weeks. The images above are the edited images. I played around with the curve, along with each color separately. I mostly tweaked the reds and blues. I tried playing around with other images as well and did have some trouble figuring out what exactly to tweak and change with lighting and color. I am happy with how the two photos above came out, I used the rule of thirds on the bottoms one, with the sign  and really like how the black reflects on the purple and orange sky.

Editing

For this image, I took the sunglasses out of another picture and pasted it into the new image. I liked the waves crashing in the background with the sunglasses in front, it gave a different perspective and a "larger" foreground area, breaking the image into layers. It was difficult to select only certain parts of images and to copy and paste them accordingly.

For this image, I took the vera wang bottle out of an image and created a first layer background, with solid black. I had to play around with moving around the layers to get it to fit properly on top. I also had to select and clear out the tiny parts on the crown and then fill them in with black so it had the same background. I liked the black as the background here I felt it gave the image a stronger effect overall.
